What is Bikram Sambat (BS)?

Bikram Sambat is the official calendar of Nepal. It runs roughly 56 to 57 years ahead of the Gregorian (AD) calendar, and its new year falls in Baishakh, which lands in mid-April. Month lengths are not fixed: the same BS month can have 29 to 32 days depending on the year, which is why BS dates cannot be converted with simple arithmetic.

How do I convert a Nepali date to English?

Choose BS → AD above, enter the Bikram Sambat year, month and day, and the Gregorian date appears with its weekday. Switch the toggle to AD → BS to go the other way.

Why does my date show an error?

Usually because the day does not exist in that month for that year. BS month lengths vary year to year, so a date like Chaitra 32 exists in some years and not others, and the tool tells you how many days that month actually had. The other reason is range: conversion covers BS 2000 to 2090, roughly 1943 to 2034 AD.

Is this converter accurate?

It uses the same conversion library that runs inside the NepEdu school dashboard, so the tool and the product cannot disagree. For anything with legal or official consequence, confirm against an official Nepali calendar as well.

Why do schools in Nepal need date conversion?

Because both calendars are in daily use. Admission registers, government reporting and parent communication often use BS, while software, exam boards and anything international tends to use AD. Mixing the two in the same record without marking which is which is one of the most common causes of bad school data.
